Shawn Staples

Partner

Shawn focuses his practice on complex commercial litigation, appellate litigation, and defense of professional malpractice claims. Shawn has extensive experience inside and outside of the courtroom. He has conducted trials in state and federal court and has assisted in appeals before the Illinois Supreme Court. Shawn has conducted depositions, resolved cases during mediation and pre-trial settlement conferences, and successfully argued many contested motion hearings. Shawn also has experience in successfully arguing and defending hearings for temporary restraining orders and injunctive relief for his business clientele.

Shawn has also assisted a number of banking clients in a variety of matters by representing the FDIC, banks, mortgage lenders, and servicers in fraud claims and commercial real estate foreclosures. He has also represented financial institutions and business in prosecuting and defending claims under the Uniform Commercial Code.

Shawn is a member of the 2017 graduating class of the Chicago Bar Association’s Leadership Institute, a program designed to enhance the leadership skills and foster the professional growth of Chicago attorneys. During law school, he was a member of the Creighton Law Review, which published his article titled "Nothing Sacred: The Supreme Court Erroneously Abandoned the Establishment Clause's Foundational Principles" (April 2006). Shawn also won the All-School International Moot Court Competition and competed in both the National Trial Competition and the National Moot Court Competition. As an undergraduate at St. Ambrose University, Shawn served as President of the student body.
